Shielding gas, wire, rods, tips and nozzles are usually bought rather than rented. Confirm the polarity change and that the drive rolls match the wire diameter you intend to run.
Fume and noise are the two exposures
Welding fume is a respiratory exposure, and the standard covering gases, vapors, fumes, dusts and mists sets out what has to be controlled; extraction or forced ventilation matters most in an enclosed or confined space. An engine drive adds sustained noise, so site it away from the work and use hearing protection when standing beside it.
Questions people ask about welding machine rental
Can I weld off a generator I already have on hire?
Yes, if the set is big enough and its output is clean enough. A welder pulls a heavy intermittent load, so a set sized for site lighting will dip or trip. Ask the branch for the welder's input current and compare it against the generator output at the voltage you have.
Does the hire include a helmet and gloves?
Usually not. Branches stock helmets, gloves and jackets as sale items or occasionally on a separate hire line, while the machine itself goes out with leads and an earth clamp. Bring your own protection, and bring a screen if anyone else is working close by.
What is duty cycle and why does it matter?
It is the share of a ten minute period a machine can weld at a stated current before it has to cool. A unit rated for high amps only briefly will stop in the middle of a long pass. For structural work, hire one rated at your current for most of the cycle.
