Will a scarifier remove epoxy or paint from a garage floor?
Yes, and it is the right tool for thick coatings that clog a grinder. It will also leave a grooved surface that needs a new coating or an overlay on top. For a thin paint film on a floor you want to keep smooth, a grinder with the right tooling is the better hire.
How much floor can I do in a day?
A walk behind machine on an open floor covers a good few hundred square feet an hour on a single pass, and much less where you have to work up to walls and around obstacles. Multiple passes for depth multiply the time. Hire the widest machine that fits your space.
Can I use one on asphalt?
Yes, for removing markings, levelling a small ridge or keying a surface before an overlay. Warm asphalt loads the cutters and slows the machine, so the work goes better early in the day. For anything more than a patch, a small milling machine is the machine to ask for instead.
Do I need three phase power?
Not for the common walk behind rentals, which run on a standard supply or on gasoline. Gasoline machines cannot be used indoors without serious ventilation because of carbon monoxide, so an electric unit and its vacuum is the usual indoor answer. Check the supply you have before you book.
