Do I need to call before digging?
Always, and the call is free. Utility location takes a few working days in most states, so make it before booking the machine rather than after. Striking a gas or fibre service costs many times the rental, and the excavation rules put the duty on whoever digs.
How deep will a small excavator dig?
Six to thirteen feet across the class, measured on level ground with the standard boom fitted. Anything deeper than about five feet that a person has to enter needs shoring or benching, which is a separate hire and a separate plan before the machine arrives.
