Which pump for which water
Clean water submersibles are cheap and fine for a flooded basement. Trash pumps pass solids up to a stated size and are the default for muddy excavations. Can I rent a pump by the week instead of the day?
Yes, and the weekly rate is normally close to three or four day rates, so anything past three days should be booked weekly. Storm work is the exception: during a regional flood, yards run short and price accordingly.
Does the rental include hoses and fittings?
Usually not. Suction hose with a strainer, discharge hose and the couplings are quoted per length or per set. Ask for the total with hose attached, otherwise the two quotes you are comparing are not the same product.
Diesel or electric for a long dewatering job?
Electric submersibles are quieter, need no refuelling and suit sites with power. A towable diesel set is the answer where there is no supply, where the flow is large, or where the pump must run overnight without anyone attending it.
