Temporary construction fence is priced per linear foot per month rather than per day, commonly $2 to $4 a foot with a minimum run of about a hundred feet. Delivery, installation and removal are separate lines. What changes the number most is whether the panels stand in weighted feet or are driven into the ground.
How the price is built
Three parts make the invoice: the monthly rental on the footage, a one-off charge to deliver and install, and the same again to strip and collect. Gates, wind screen and privacy mesh are priced per unit on top. A short run costs more per foot than a long one because the mobilisation is the same either way.
Panels in feet, or posts in the ground
Free-standing panels in concrete or plastic feet go up in an afternoon, move as the site changes and suit hard surfaces where you cannot dig. Post-driven fence is stiffer, harder to walk off with and better in wind, but it needs soft ground and utility locates before anything is driven. Most short jobs take panels; anything over a few months tends to go driven.
Wind screen is not free footage
Mesh screen sold as wind screen or privacy screen turns an open fence into a sail. On free-standing panels that means more ballast, closer bracing and often a wind rating the supplier will quote. Add it because the neighbours need it or because the site must not be shopped from the pavement, and expect the ballast line to grow with it.
What the fence is doing there
Two jobs, usually. It keeps the public away from an open excavation, plant left overnight and stacked material, which is a duty on the site rather than a courtesy. And it keeps your rented machines behind something, because a damage waiver commonly excludes theft where the equipment was left unsecured in the open.

What is the minimum term for a construction fence rental?
Most suppliers rent on a 28-day or calendar-month cycle with a one-month minimum, then bill by the month until you call for collection. A two-week job pays for a month. Give notice for removal the way the contract asks, because the meter runs until the panels are back on the truck.
Do I need a permit for temporary fencing?
On private property, usually not. The moment any part of the fence, or the walkway it closes, sits in the public right of way, the city normally wants a permit and sometimes a protected pedestrian route. That is a call to the municipality, not to the fence supplier, and it takes longer than the fence does.
Can I move the panels once they are installed?
Free-standing panels are designed to be moved, and shifting a run as the work progresses is normal. Driven posts are not: relocating them is a second install charge. If the site layout will change more than once, that alone is a reason to take panels.
