A manual forklift is a hand pumped stacker: no battery, no seat, a hydraulic ram raised by a foot pedal or a lever. Yards price them around $40 to $80 a day and they lift somewhere between 1,000 and 2,200 pounds, to five or ten feet. That makes it the machine for occasional lifting on a flat indoor floor, and for nothing else.
The pump is the limit
Every foot of lift is a run of pump strokes, so the machine is slow by design and tiring by the end of an afternoon. Ten or fifteen pallets in a day is comfortable. A hundred is not, and that is the point where the extra rate for a powered walkie stops being an extra at all.
Ask by capacity and height, not by name
The counter keeps several things under the same heading: a hand pallet truck that only lifts a few inches, a straddle stacker with legs either side of the load, and a mobile lift table. Give them the pallet weight, the height you must reach and whether the pallet is open at the bottom, and the right unit turns up.
Where the powered truck rules stop
A hand pumped stacker is not a powered industrial truck, so the federal standard written for those machines does not reach it. That is not permission to hand it to anyone. Whoever uses it still has to read the capacity plate, keep the load low while travelling and know that a raised load makes it easy to tip.
The floor decides more than the machine
Small hard wheels need smooth concrete. A joint, a threshold strip or a patch of gravel will stop the unit dead and shift the load forward. Slopes are worse, because there is no drive and no brake beyond the operator. If the route crosses anything but flat sealed floor, hire something powered.

Is a manual forklift the same as a pallet jack?
No. A pallet jack lifts a load just clear of the floor so it can be wheeled, and it has no mast. A manual forklift, or hand stacker, has a mast and raises the load to shelf height. Both are pushed by hand, but only one of them can put a pallet on racking.
Can a manual stacker go in a truck body?
Only if it can get up there. The unit is not built to drive up a ramp under load, so it works inside a body reached from a dock at the same level. Loading from ground level is a job for a powered machine with a drive wheel and a brake.
What does the rental include?
The unit and its capacity plate, and that is normally all. There is no charger, no fuel and no battery to worry about, which is part of why the rate is low. Check the ram for leaks and the wheels for flats before you sign, because a soft wheel makes the whole thing unmanageable.
