What an air scrubber rental costs by the day, and how much airflow the job actually needs

An air scrubber, which the counter may call a negative air machine, pulls room air through a filter stack and either returns it clean or pushes it outside through lay flat duct. Hire runs roughly $45 to $95 a day for the common 500 to 2,000 CFM sizes, and the filter sets are charged on top of that rate.

What the day rate actually includes

The rate covers the cabinet, the blower and one filter set fitted when the machine leaves the yard. Ducting, spare prefilters and the HEPA cartridge itself are usually separate lines, and a heavily loaded HEPA is charged to you on return. Ask what a replacement set costs before the machine goes on the truck.

Airflow, not floor area, sizes the machine

Yards size these on the volume of the space, length by width by ceiling height, against the machine's rated airflow, then on how fast the air has to turn over. A tall warehouse bay swallows a 500 CFM unit that would be ample for a bathroom strip out. Give the counter room dimensions rather than a square foot figure.

Negative air or plain recirculation

Ducted to the outside, the machine holds the room slightly negative so dust stays inside the containment instead of drifting down the corridor. Run unducted, it simply cleans the air where it stands. Negative pressure needs duct, tape and poly sheeting, all of which the same counter rents or sells beside the unit.

It does not replace control at the source

Cutting, grinding and drilling masonry release respirable silica, and the control that counts is water on the blade or a shroud and dust collector on the tool. A scrubber cleans up what escapes that. Hiring the saw together with its vacuum costs less than trying to filter a whole floor afterwards.

Questions people ask about air scrubber rental

How many air scrubbers do I need for one room?

One unit sized on the volume covers a single room. A long floor plate, or several rooms behind one containment, usually takes more than one machine or a single large unit ducted through. The practical test is whether the poly sheeting draws inward once the door is shut.

Are filters included in the rental price?

Usually not. The machine goes out with a set fitted and comes back inspected, and a clogged HEPA is billed at replacement cost. On dusty demolition work, budget for at least one prefilter change a week and keep the old ones so the yard can see the load they took.

Can a homeowner rent one for a weekend?

Yes. General rental centers hire these by the day, with Saturday to Monday often priced as one day, and nothing is licensed or checked. Take the duct if you are working in an occupied house, since the point is moving the dust out rather than around.
