A walk behind forklift is a pedestrian stacker: you steer it with a tiller handle and walk alongside instead of sitting in a cab. Pedestrian, not miniature
A stacker is not a small sit down forklift with the seat removed. It is slower on purpose, it turns in about its own length, and it is designed to be walked into a trailer or a lift that would never take a counterbalance machine. If the work is moving pallets across a yard all day, hire the sit down truck instead.
Straddle legs or counterbalanced
Straddle models put two legs on the floor either side of the load, which keeps them light but means the pallet has to sit where the legs can pass. Counterbalanced walkies carry the weight behind the mast and will pick a pallet off a closed sided rack or a truck bed. The second type is heavier and hires for more.
The floor is part of the specification
Small polyurethane wheels need a smooth, dry, level slab. Gravel, expansion joints with a lip, and a ramp steeper than a loading dock apron will all stop one. Nobody puts these outdoors on made ground, and a yard that hears the word outside on the phone will usually steer you to a rough terrain machine.
Charging is a booking question
Most are battery electric and want a normal outlet for several hours, so plan an overnight charge on a socket that is not shared with something heavy. Ask whether the machine arrives charged and whether the charger is on board or a separate box, because a stacker that turns up flat costs you the first morning.

Do I need a licence to use a walk behind forklift?
It is a powered industrial truck like any other, so the employer has to train and authorise whoever operates it, and the yard gives a familiarisation on the specific machine. There is no card sold at the counter that satisfies that.
Will it lift a pallet into a shipping container?
A counterbalanced walkie usually will, if the container is at dock height and the approach is flat. A straddle model normally cannot, because the outriggers foul the container floor lip. Say container on the phone and the yard will pick for you.
How much does one weigh?
Commonly between 1,500 and 3,000 lb depending on the battery and the mast, which matters if it has to travel in a passenger lift or across a suspended floor. Ask for the machine weight and check it against the floor rating before delivery day.
