Small frame units land around 5,500 to 6,500 pounds, medium frame near 7,000 to 8,500, and large frame past 10,000. That figure, not the horsepower, decides how the machine reaches site and where it can go once it is there.
Operating weight, shipping weight and the plate
Brochures print more than one number. Shipping weight leaves out fluids and sometimes the bucket, while operating weight includes them. The plate on the machine is the one to believe and the counter can read it out. Add the attachment separately, because a breaker or a mulching head is hundreds of pounds on its own.
The trailer arithmetic most people get wrong
Add the machine, the attachment and the trailer, then compare that total against the tow rating and against the trailer's own rated capacity, whichever is lower. A large frame loader on a car trailer is over the plate before it leaves the yard. Federal rules on jobsite vehicles expect a load secured and inside its rating.
Ground pressure is a different question
A tracked loader can weigh more than a wheeled one and still mark a lawn less, because its weight spreads along two long tracks instead of four contact patches. On soft turf that reverses the intuition entirely. Ask for ground pressure whenever the machine has to cross something you will be responsible for repairing.
Weight on a slab, a deck or a basement lid
Suspended slabs, podium decks and basement lids carry a design load that a loaded machine can exceed on one wheel. That is an engineer's question rather than a counter question, and the answer usually arrives as plywood, mats or a smaller machine. The yard can give you the weight; only the structure's designer can allow it.

Stand on and walk behind mini loaders sit near two to four thousand pounds, well under the smallest ride in machine. They are the answer when a trailer, a bridge, a lawn or a floor sets the limit. Capacity drops with the weight, so the trade is a real one.
Does the attachment count towards the weight?
Yes, both for transport and for the ground it stands on. Buckets add a few hundred pounds and breakers, augers, mulchers and grapples add considerably more. Weigh the combination you are actually taking away rather than the machine as it appears in a brochure.
Why is weight listed next to rated capacity?
Because the two are linked. A heavier machine resists tipping and therefore carries more at the coupler, which is why lifting capacity climbs with frame size. If a listing gives capacity without weight, ask for both before planning the load.
