A scraper is the earthmoving machine that cuts, carries and spreads dirt in one continuous pass, and it is the least likely of the big classes to be sitting on a rental lot. Can I rent a scraper for a small site?
Rarely, and it would be the wrong machine anyway. Turning and manoeuvring eat the advantage on a short haul, and the transport cost lands whether the machine works a day or a month. A dozer with a six way blade shifts a small site for far less.
What is a pull pan?
A towed scraper bowl with no engine of its own, hitched behind a tractor or a dozer. Land levelling and agricultural yards stock them, they cost a fraction of a self propelled unit to hire and to move, and they do real work on paddock levelling and pond building.
Is a scraper the same as a grader?
No. A grader hangs a blade under a long frame and shapes a surface over a shallow depth. A scraper moves volume from one place to another. Big earthworks use both, in that order, and rental yards stock far more graders than scrapers.
